The Okun Media Link, a popular voice of the people of kogi west senatorial zone of the state has expressed worries over ugly signal of alleged threat to peace and security across the zone for the saturday gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections.
In a press release signed by the Chairman Friday Ogungbemi and made available to Journalists in lokoja on Wednesday warned politicians to eschew violence and to embrace peaceful conduct of the elections advising that all the candidates are brethren whose aim is for the development of the zone.
He said the people of kogi west are renown for their industry, forthrightness and political enlightenment adding that the people have contributed to the growth of the state and may not be party to actions that will be a clog to the wellbeing of the people.
The chairman called on all the stakeholders to lend their voice in order to calm the tensions while warning trouble makers not to turn the zone into a war theatre. While encouraging all and sundry to come out enmass to exercise their franchise for the candidates of their choice urged them to be mindful of their actions as it may account against them in the future.
In a related development a PDP youth leader from Omala Local Government Area of the state, Ojochide Musa has called on Resident Electoral Commissioner ( REC) Professor James Apam to ensure that the election materials for the saturday election should not be hijacked by some hoodlums
The youth leader said his fears was borne out of threats by some members of the ruling party (APC) that they have allegedly concluded plans not to deploy sensitive materials to Omala and Bassa LGAs which are strongholds of the PDP
According to him , the threat of using the relevant government machinery to ensure that sensitive electoral materials does not get to the two LGAs is becoming louder as the day approaches urged the government and INEC not to allow their names to be smeared in the murky waters of politics.
He called on all the lovers of Democracy and the people of Omala and Bassa LGAs to stand up against the enemies of the people by ensuring that they come out enmass to cast and defend their votes on saturday 9 th March 2019 gubernatorial and state Assembly elections.
