The alleged death and the announcement by the police of the death of the leader of the gang that robbed five banks and killed 32 people in Offa on April 5, is causing controversy in the country.
the mysterious death of the suspects is causing confusion among Kwara and Offa residents as to what must killed the suspected armed robber leader in such circumstances.
Meanwhile, Kwara residents are demanding from the police the true story of the death of the armed robbery kingpin.
Nigerians were shocked when the police in Abuja, announced to the world, the death of the robbery kingpin without pr-information about his illness.
Kwara indigenes have called on the police to come out with the true position of the death of the suspect in their detention camp.
Also, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, in a statement signed on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, urged the Presidency to institute a judicial inquiry into how and when the principal suspect died in police custody.
“Following eventual disclosure by the Police that Michael Adikwu, the principal suspect in the deadly bank robbery attacks in Offa, Kwara State, on April 5, 2018, is dead, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has called on the Presidency to institute a judicial inquiry into the ‘how and when’ the suspect died’.
The Senate President added that the new disclosure by the police has vindicated his earlier claim that the suspect had been murdered in police custody and that the investigation was politically motivated to implicate him, Governor Abdul-Fatai Ahmed and a few others.
But the police through a post by Abba Kyari, a member of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team, countered that the Offa Bank robber, Micheal Adigun is not among the five that publicly confessed to be political thugs and all those five are alive and charged to court already.
“It’s important to clarify because some politicians are trying to twist the story to show that the Robber that mentioned them is dead to discredit the efforts and sacrifices we made in arresting these deadly Offa Bank robbers”, Kyari explained.
“This is just to clear the air on this matter. We have nothing to hide on the death of one armed robber among plenty we arrested and we are open to any form of investigation that can be done on the death of this notorious bank robber as we continue our unrelenting
“The search for the remaining gang members at large is on. It’s also our prayer that all the unrepentant Armed robbers and killers in this country where ever they are, to get sick and die or remain in lawful custody for our innocent citizens to live in peace. For those fighting for the Bank Robber and Killer Micheal Adikwu, we wish you the best.”
The excuses provided by the police seems not to go down well with the public who are strongly asking the police to explain how a suspect died in their hands adding that it’s an inhuman to allow a suspect to die in police custody.
