No fewer than 85 suspected criminals of various crimes were, last Monday, paraded at the last police briefing at the Police Command in Ikeja, Lagos.
The suspects are of various ages and committed various crimes. Police says the suspects were arrested at different locations while working on discreet information volunteered by the Lagos residents.
According to the Lagos State Police Commander, Edgal Imohim, the essence of the parade was to keep Lagos people with the latest updates in the fight of crimes and criminality in the state, by the command.
He stated that the briefing was to let Lagos residents know what the command is doing about crimes in the state adding that the activities of the command has reduced nefarious activities of the under-world in the state.
The commissioner of police said the crimes committed by the suspects ranges from armed robbing, street cultism, attempted kidnapping, arson, child abuse, obtaining by false pretence, ‘one chance’ robberies, illegal possession of fire arms, faking of Nigeria Navy officers by alleged criminals, and other sundry criminal activities.
He explained that most of the suspects were arrested at the scene of incidents while others were nabbed after thorough investigations and follow ups.
According to Edgal Imohim, fuel attendants conspired with armed robbers to raid a filling station at the Oja area of Lagos, saying that the supervisor of the filling satiation was the mastermind of the attack.
In another development, he revealed how an employee of a business woman also conspired to kidnap their boss because the woman according to the suspects was a wicked woman but that the plot failed when the police were informed of the clandestine move of the suspects.
Addressing journalists, Imohim said in the case of ‘One Chance robbers’, his men and Federal SARS, arrested and rescued the passengers of a particular Danfo bus early in the morning, as the criminals held the passengers hostage after disposing them of their money, and other belongings.
He stated that on interrogation, the suspect told the police that they make average of N300, 000, daily from robbing passengers while the vehicle is on the move. He said when the suspects were arrested police discovered locally made rifles, charms, and other dangerous weapons.
The Lagos CP, also claimed that at the Ijora Badia area, a gang of about 19 notorious suspects were also apprehended and that the boys were trying to commit arson when the police burst into them and arrested 19 of them. He said Ijora Badia is being ride of criminals, hooliganism, drug abuse, cultism and armed robbery by the men of the Nigeria police.
At the Agege are of Lagos, Imohim also stated how the police apprehended no fewer than 70 suspected cultists notoriously known as ‘Awawa Boys’.
