Atiku’s absence sends shock waves

Some of the political aspirants in the forthcoming presidential election appear uncomfortable with the long absence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. Alhaji Abubakar has maintained some quietude in the last few weeks since his emergence as the PDP flag bearer and subsequent endorsement by the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Alhaji Abubakar, in what many described as a strategic step has decided to go on vacation abroad as his continued stay in the country will provoke political activities that will be considered as capable of overheating the polity. He has rather decided to take time off to strategize offshore.

It has been said that the former Vice-President has been on vacation in Dubai which has become a Mecca of sorts for the Atiku faithfuls, a development that is considered a “crime” by his detractors.

The ruling All Progressive Congress, APC has erupted,  calling for the investigation of Atiku for meeting with his political associates outside of Nigeria and that the meeting is calculated at dislodging President Muhammadu Buhari.

Political analysts consider the out burst of APC as embarrassing and laughable as there is no electoral law that forbids an aspirant from going on vacation abroad or from meeting with supporters outside the country.

“If Atiku had stayed back to host strategic sessions with his supporters and associates in Nigeria, he would have been accused of overheating the polity. Now that he has to keep his calm, they are not happy that they cannot tell his next line of action”, a supporter remarked.
