Otukpo, the traditional home of the Idoma has been agog with festivities since Monday 2 April 2018 when activities marking the 70th birthday of former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark commenced with a Pro-AM Golf Tournament at the Otukpo Golf and Country Club, Akpegede-Otukpo. The tournament, which attracted golfers from various parts of Nigeria and neighboring countries ended on Saturday, 7 April 2018. The celebrations climaxed on Sunday, 8 April 2018 with High Mass, which was celebrated by Bishop Michael Apochi of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Otukpo.
Some of the important dignitaries at the Church service were Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekerenwandu, former Governor of Benue State, Dr. Gabriel Suswam, Deputy Governor of Benue State, Engineer Benson Abounu, governorship aspirants and politicians from various parts of Nigeria.
There were high expectations that the former President of the Senate would use the occasion to launch his much-expected Presidential ambition. The expectations were heightened when he announced after the Church service that further announcements would be made during the grand reception which held at his country home in Otukpo. The event, however, went without a word on his Presidential ambition.
So the waiting game continues.
